Frustration is mounting in Memphis, where the struggling (to say the least) Grizzlies find themselves trapped in the cellar of Division 2. During yesterday morning's practice, team officials had to restrain disgruntled forward Kwame Brown after "coming to blows" with fellow teammate Brian Cardinal, according to one Memphis beat writer. Cardinal exchanged a few words of dissatisfaction with Kwame over what he felt was an unnecessarily hard screen, with the situation evolving into a shoving match and eventually a closed fist showdown. For what its worth, Kwame supposedly got the best of Brian, who was seen earlier today with a bulging black eye.
In any event, Brown was escorted off the practice court and sent home for the evening. Team officials are now considering all options ranging from a meager fine, to a suspension, and even possibly a release from the team. It was believed that management was trying to move Kwame prior to this past week's trade deadline but found little to no interest around the league. Brown's expiring contract would make a buy-out much more plausible for the financially stricken Grizzlies.
As for Cardinal, his involvement in the altercation was deemed to be a matter of self defense as Brown apparently "blew things out of proportion". When asked about the initiating of words from Cardinal, the team responded by saying that communication is encouraged and is one thing this team is currently lacking.
