The Louisville Stallions opened their franchise up with a win earlier today against the Indiana Pacers. The team fought through a close game, and eventually clipped the Pacers 99-94.
Deron Williams, the stud PG for the Stallions, unsurprisingly led the team in scoring with 19 points. The guard also dished out 9 assists and had 3 steals. Jared Dudley, whom the Stallions have designated a franchise player, started at the power forward position and managed to pull in no less than 16 boards in his first game for the organization. Six Stallions' players were in double figures for scoring.
GM Josh Barber commented after the game about the victory, "I am very pleased with what this team accomplished in our very first game. There was a lot of criticism over whether or not I could mange a team of young players since I have tons of guys over 30 over at D5, but I definately think I am up to the challenge. Today is not about me, though. The guys played great."
In other Stallions news, GM Josh Barber has executed two trades. The first will send the talented guard Larry Hughes to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Rodney Stuckey and some other players. The second trade will package Stallions Brent Barry, Bruce Bowen, and Jamal Magloire to Minnesota for forward Ryan Gomes.
GM Josh Barber commented about the trades when we addressed them, "Rodney Stuckey and Ryan Gomes are going to be faces of our franchise. We had them in Louisville before the game, and worked both of them out. I can tell you right now that they will both be starting on our team. I think Rodney Stuckey has a lot to learn from Deron Williams, while Ryan Gomes will be one of the leading scorers for this team. Dudley played well at the power forward position today, so Gomes will probably start at the small forward position so Dudley can keep pullin g in those rebounds. We will be holding an open competition for the starting center position."
