With questions going on as to how the Indiana Pacers are 0-3 to start the season, we might have got our answer from the teams newest aquisitions, Keith Bogans, and DJ Strawberry. The pair of guards were traded for earlier in the week, in a deal that saw Flip Murray head down to San Antonio. But apperently the two are shocked.
When they walked into the locker room to meet their new teammates for the first time, the two were left in awe, when veteran GM / Coach Erik Lassen handed them both a cigarette, and a beer, and told them to take a seat. Says Strawberry "In San Antonio, and Phoenix, we were told we could have our contracts voided for smoking, but Lassen is the king of peer pressure." This was also evident in training camp when star forward Danny Granger was taken out during a scrimmage, and forced to chain smoke a pack to level the playing field according to a player who wanted to remain unidentified. (Travis "Bed Wetter" Diener)
With the recent trading for 2 smaller players, and Lassen now actively pursuing guards Tarance Kinsey and Darius Washington, words are about regarding the fact that Lassen likes guards better because their lungs are easier to damage (due to a smaller lung capacity). But ex Pacer Flip Murray disagrees. Murray was quoted as saying "Erik and me were tight. He never once forced drugs on me other than the occasional joint or line." When a reporter replied with "We were talking about cigarettes" Murray got up and said that he had to pick his son up from baseball.
Whatever the situation, the Pacers are 0-3, and Lassen has some serious work to do.
