The Indiana Pacers newest teammate (well one of two if you count Mark Blount as a basketball player) has spoken about his recent trade from the struggling Louisville Stallions to the also struggling Pacers. Indiana has a poor record at this point in time, finding themselves among the basement dwellers in the second division, which begs the question "Why is Deron Williams happy with this move"
One could say that Indiana is just an awful team. With the departure of Mike Dunleavy, David Lee, and Shane Battier, the team's top scorer is Marquis Daniels, who has been forced to play out of position at point guard as a result of the lack of talent at that position. But with one of the top generals in the league on his way to the Hoosier state, Marquis can play on the wing where he will have an easier time scoring. With Williams running the point and passing to a plethora of wings such as the afformentioned Daniels, as well as Keith Bogans who thus far in the season has scored 15 PPG for the Pacers coming off the bench.
The team has other wings who will fill the void left by Dunleavy and Battier, but the team may have trouble down low. The trade leaves the team with Jeff Foster, Mark Blount, David Harrison, and Jared Jeffries as the team's only big men. Foster has been a consistant rebounder throughout his career, but his lack of height and offensive ability make him a limited option. Mark Blount has been fairly dissapointing the last couple of years, and David Harrison's always been dissapointing. Jared Jeffries may see his minutes increase dramatically as the team needs a power forward.
All we know for sure, is the rest of the season might not go to well without any proven big men.
