It would be generous to say that it has been a long season for the folks down in Louisville. There were high expectations for the team coming into their first ever NBA Season when start guard Deron Williams was aquired from the Utah Jazz. A few months later, the guard is playing for rival Indiana Pacers. But, even in the valley of darkness, a light shines in the sky.
The team isn't in too bad of shape. There are high hopes for 2nd year guard Rodney Stuckey, who was announced as the starting point guard earlier today by the coach. At shooting guard, sharp shooter Mike Dunleavy steps in, and is expected to lead this team in scoring. At small forward, Dunleavy's fellow Duke alumnus and defensive stopper Shane Battier holds it down. Playing the four is rebounding sensation David Lee, although he needs to be resigned after the year is over. Holding down the froncourt beside Lee is the cancerous cented Nene.
Despite all of the turmoil and controvery that has taken place in the first season of the Stallions, there really does seem to be a bright future.
We sat down earlier today for an exclusive interview with Stallions' GM Josh Barber
Q: Where do you see this team at the end of the season
A: Well, to tell you the truth, this is a young team, and I'm not sure if we can make it to D1 this year.
Q: Any plans for the offseason
A: Yea, we are going to have a bunch of cap room, and we hope to make a run at a good big man to help out up front.
Q: When do you think you will get out of D1
A: I think we will definately get out next season, and theres a little bit of hope to get out this season.
Q: You recently traded Deron Williams and Larry Hughes, arguably the two best players on the team. Any regrets
A: Nah, no regrets. I am really excited about having a more balanced team, and I think it will translate to the scoreboard.
Q: Who is the leader of this young team, if you have one
A: Well, coach appointed Battier as the captain, and I am all for it. The guy is a veteran defensive player who is a great locker room guy aswell.
Q: Where do you see this team in 5 years
A: Hopefully at the top of D1!
